This photo was taken in Lyles field at Loughan to celebrate VE day the end of WW11 in Europe in May 1945. This is the Watton family who came from Loughan near Coleraine who along with others are enjoying the day.

It's 1917 and before your eyes is the most dreaded place a person can think of. If your a family and have no choice but to go in there, the first thing that happens is you are seperated. Your wife and any daughters go to the female area and you and any sons go to the male area and you never see each other again unless by some miracle you are all able to leave this place. Thankfully it was years later that is was demolished and replaced by the Route Hospital. The stonewear was taken to Taggart's yard in Meeting Street where it was crushed and made into concrete bricks. These bricks were then used to build new houses on the Newal Road.
