GALLAHER'S 4534
This is the Refining and Shredding Dept. one of the many departments inside
Gallaher's Tobacco factory in York Street back on the 14th May 1937 which
was a Friday. The reason for flags it was the Coronation of King George VI
at Westminster Abbey, London two days ago. The ladies are sorting out the
tobacco leaves, this is a critical post-curing process where leaves are classified
by color, texture, size, and stalk position to determine their use as wrappers,
binders or fillers.
GRESHAM STREET 4538
It's the 27th March 1953 and we are in Gresham Street and these two lads Brian
McMillan and James McGivern from St Mary's CBS.outside Montgomery's Pet Store
are enviously at the fish tanks priced at 20 old Shillings which was to a
old Pound, a lot of money back then. I had a fish tank but my father made
it for me, I also got a rabbit from there and so did my Son Simon. Behind
them is a barbers shop you can tell by the barber's pole.
