ANTRIM AERIAL VIEW
This spectacular shot was taken in the skies over Antrim in the summer of 1943. Of special interest are some of the details of the town below. If you
look closely you can see that Antrim Castle was still standing more than two decades after it was devastated by fire, The walled gardens to the rear of the
castle, however, had by this stage fallen into neglect and were overgrown, also so were the green houses. Castle Street, the Court House and High Street
are also clearly visible. Also notice the straight road which headed out towards the Lough, more than 10 years before the Firfields estate was built.

The aircraft is an Avro 652A Anson Mark 1. They were navigation, Bombing, Gunnery and radio trainer aircraft, and they were returning form a war-time
training run over the Lough. The planes were also used by Coastal Command squadrons to perform inshore maritime patrols.

ANTRIM AERIAL VIEW
This dramatic aerial view of Antrim taken 1926, in the foreground to your left you can see Clotworthy House, in the days before it swapped cart-horses
for art courses! The devastating fire had swept through the castle four years previously, but the impressive old building still stood proud beside the
neatly trimmed Motte. Immediately behind that you can just make out the long greenhouses where Viscount Massereene and his gardeners produced
their award-winning crops. Also visible are All Saints' and First Antrim Presbyterian Church along with Massereene Bridge and the Court House.
The picture must have been taken on a Thursday for coming down High Street is a herd of cattle. Though the workhouse and the factories - with their
towering chimney stacks - are all long gone.
ANTRIM AERIAL VIEW
To the left is Antrim Castle 4 years after the fire with its grand entrance via the Barbican gate house.
Next to it is the Motte and the walled gardens and the two oblong white sections are the greenhouses.
Then comes Castle street and the Court house in Market square. Over to your right is Massereene Bridge.
The year was 1926.
